LOHP’s small business projects, funded by the Commission on Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation, are designed to assist small businesses in the development and implementation of effective health and safety programs, including training and engaging their employees in these programs.
Training
LOHP conducts half-day trainings for small business owners and managers to help them to develop and implement an effective health and safety program at your (their) workplaces that meets the requirements of Cal/OSHA’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) standard. These trainings are conducted as part of the state’s Worker Occupational Safety and Health Training and Education Program and are carried out in collaboration with trainers from Cal/OSHA Consultation Service and State Compensation Insurance Fund. Upcoming trainings.
Participants learn about:
- Meeting Cal/OSHA requirements and expectations for an effective IIPP
- How to identify and solve common health and safety problems in their workplace
- Steps for investigating work-related accidents, injuries and illnesses when they occur
- Ways to involve their employees in your safety program
The Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) is an important written workplace safety program. Title 8 of the California Code of Regulations (T8CCR) section 3203 and section 1509, requires every employer to develop and implement an effective IIPP. An effective IIPP improves the safety and health in your workplace and reduces costs by good management and employee involvement. View the requirements of an IIPP plan.

There are also factsheets directed primarily at owners and employers, including an overview of Cal/OSHA and an explanation of how small businesses can benefit from improved safety programs.
Restaurant Safety Training Guide: Similar to the Small Business Training Guide, it is designed to help restaurant employers develop a creative, simple health and safety plan for their restaurants.
