Liam Chavez, BA

Biography

Liam (he/him) is thrilled to join the LOHP team as a Public Education Specialist. He graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.A. in history focusing on the history of science, information, medicine, and Latin America. He previously worked for the College of Alameda providing outreach and academic support for Latinx students. Liam trained as a teacher at a Latino-majority high school and tutored K-12 students, specializing in working with diverse learners and students with special needs.

As an undergrad, Liam served on Cal’s Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) representing students with disabilities; he has also volunteered extensively with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). In addition to LOHP, Liam works with Flourish by EM Consulting which provides free counseling services to employees of government-funded medical clinics. He is a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community and sits on the Community Advisory Group for Bridge HIV (part of the San Francisco Department of Public Health) where he provides insights into the queer community to guide future research and outreach efforts.

In his free time, you can find Liam in the pool and/or the ocean with the Temescal Master’s swim team, knitting, singing & playing the piano, or enjoying a classic film.
