Theo Leenman, PhD
Biography
Theo is an applied social scientist with over a decade of experience designing and leading research in the public health space. As a research consultant with Harder + Company community research, he led community health needs assessments for Kaiser Permanente in 16 California service areas with a strong focus on elevating social determinants of health like race, socioeconomics, and education. His preferred research approach uses community-based participatory methods that view workers and leaders as experts in understanding their contexts. Theo is also an accomplished educator having designed undergraduate courses on gender and sexuality, qualitative methods, and social movements.
Theo has a doctorate in sociology from Harvard focused on racial and relational determinants of HIV prevention. His current projects at LOHP research the efficacy of mental health interventions following workplace violence and disasters.
